Confession, I am a wanna-be DIYer. I never do much DIY because I am right below average and I don't love being below average at things, so I just avoid it all together. Except photography because I choose to embrace my below average status so that I can show you certain things...which is a segway into showing you what I'm thinking of starting with Cambelle this next month to see how it catches on with her. As some of you know (or will know very soon), it starts getting REAL around age four. What I mean by that is... parenting.
For us, ages two and three weren't so terrible with Cambelle. Age four has been our biggest challenge. It could possibly have to do with the introduction of two other little humans that bumped her down the totem pole twice in the last 19 months, but what do I know? Either way, we are dealing with pretty intentional disobedience, sass and manipulation right now and I am feeling the weight of our responses to such behavior. How we react to her behavior right now is super important in molding her behavior for the future, so I am trying to think about how to make obedience a game by giving her incentive to do good and take responsibility over her actions. Is it so ironic that she literally just got out of time-out right before I sat down to write this? Nope. #momlife.
Anyways, I will make this short- I got these cutesy little things today at Target. A super cute white board with some magnets , eraser and markers to create a Big Girl Board. We will simply put up a magnet every time myself or Drew catches her doing these things. When we get to 5 magnets in each category she gets a treat! Now, the categories on the left can change, those are just the things we are struggling with at the moment. So far so NOT good (as she just got out of time out), but we will keep trying. I probably will have to keep reminding her of our new Big Girl Board, but she will get the hang of it as we positively reinforce her every time she does one of these things. I would LOVE to hear your ideas/tactics on how to incentivize your kiddos! Leave a comment below or on my instagram post!
